Visual Impairment

Visual Impairment

I made the changes to Microsoft Word to make it better and easier for the son to use by making things bigger and easier to read and also by making changes to the screen resolution to a higher resolution to make it easier for the son to see everything on the page.

I made a few other changes such as changing the page colour to blue and the font colour to white so that the font (writing) stands out more and makes it clearer to see and easier to read.
I minimized the ribbon so it is easier to work and you can still use the options within the ribbon at anytime.

There are other things you can to do to improve visual and audio impairment including:

Ease of Access - is a control panel. It allows for a simpler method for Windows to adapt to computer users with accessibility needs or who want additional features. Ease of Access makes full use of the new Windows Aero interface, using interactive hyperlinks and the Control Panel explorer to navigate throughout the interface and apply settings.

Narrator - is a light-duty screen reader utility. Narrator reads dialog boxes and window controls in a number of the more basic applications for Windows. It provides a measure of access to Windows without the need to install additional software as long as the computer in use includes a sound card and speakers or headphones.

Magnifier - is a screen magnifier program for the visually impaired to use Microsoft Windows. When it is run, it creates a bar at the top of the screen that greatly magnifies where the mouse is.

Screen Display – there are different options you can choose and change with screen display and you can add things such as the on screen keyboard which makes it easier to use and lets you see the keyboard on screen instead of having to look and type with a normal keyboard all the time.

Speech Recognition - Windows Speech Recognition allows the user to control the computer by giving specific voice commands. The program can also be used for the dictation of text so that the user can control their Vista or Windows 7 computer.

All of these help options can help the visually impaired son through guidence, audio, display.
They help the visually impaired son by helping him see clearer, hear what has been typed and guide him through his work on Microsoft Word.
